Elizabeth! This is such a lovely post! I am all about 5, 6, and 7, too, but as I just moved, and also just decided I was NEVER moving again, I am projecting forward. But this house... it just feels right. Thanks for articulating it so well for me!

Wow, I always loved getting to Chap 4 in my drafts! It meant I had gotten all the preliminary stuff done and could settle into the story. Of course it will be awhile before I start a new draft, I have too many I'm pulling off the shelf to rewrite now, so maybe it will be different then - when I'm starting new.

I also have to think about my ten things - I certainly am not a big house person either, though I did have one in the past, when all my girls were home, and we used every inch. Cozy and comfortable are my thing - especially now.

I'll have to check out Melissa - haven't seen her in ages!

Thanks for doing this, Elizabeth! So Chapter 4 is my nemesis. I'm currently there right now (after writing the end of the book first to keep from having to deal with it) and it's killing me. It always does.

I love your house, too. That view is to die for and the house just has such a cozy, comfy feel!

BTW, my oldest wants to learn to knit. I was thinking of putting together something for a Christmas gift for her, but this is your speciality not mine. I'll email you for ideas!

I only have one child, a son, and so I've made it a point to craft with him, starting from the time he was very small - about 3 or 4. He can now (at 21) sew better than I do, and will often go and pick out fabric and make it up on his own. We also baked together, such as gingerbread houses for his teachers; by the time he was in 5th or 6th grade he was doing almost all the work himself (except assembly, which always seems to require the entire family's help!)

At the same time, his father taught him how to work with tools and to fix almost anything, so he's doubly talented and very self-sufficient.

Do you know how to finger-knit? The boys might enjoy that ~
