I am fascinated by all the authors who are writing e-reads, like Lavinia Kent, who is releasing The Real Duchesses of London novellas, so I asked her to drop by and share five things about herself you and I might not know. That and I liked her book trailer. So without further ado, Five Things About Lavinia Kent:
1) Favorite dessert : Really good Key Lime Pie.
2) Most played song on my iPod : It varies enough that I can’t answer.
3) Secret passion (hobby, collections, sport, thrill seeking): Reality TV. I love it, particularly Bravo’s Real Housewives. It what made writing Kathryn, the Kitten, the first of my The Real Duchesses of London novellas so fun.
(EB: I swear, writers can find inspiration in the wildest places!)
4) Coolest celeb you’ve ever met: Living in Washington, DC, I’ve had several brushes with the political types, but my favorite encounter ever was probably shaking hands with Sting at a restaurant in Boston years ago. My boyfriend at the time was working as a sous chef and when he called me to say Sting was there I broke all speed limits driving over.
(EB: Okay, Lavinia, that is the coolest celeb mentioned yet. I would have driven from Seattle to shake his hand. Then I would have probably begged him to sing Roxanne to me and not let go of his hand until he did.)
5) Best advice my mother/grandmother/cool funky aunt/sister/college roommate gave me about men: I am sorry but I can’t repeat it – not even among friends. It was very technical.
(EB: Not. Even. Going. To. Ask.)
So there are Lavinia’s Five Things. Her first novella in her The Real Duchesses of London series, Kathryn, The Kitten, is available now. For more information about her other books, please visit her website: LaviniaKent.com. And since I couldn’t resist, here is the fun trailer for her series:
Thank you, so much for having me, Elizabeth.
And you’re right about Sting. I didn’t wash my hand for a couple of days. The poor boyfriend just couldn’t compete. LOL.
Lavinia
I’m in the midst of reading Kathryn, the Kitten right now and have Linnette, the Lioness on pre-order at Amazon. I’ve enjoyed Lavinia’s other books that I’ve read and so far, this story is pretty good too.
I’ve read some discussion on a Paperback Book Swap forum about the titles of these ebooks (too cutesy & cartoonish) and readers wondering why they are being released in separate novellas rather than in one volume. I’m wondering that myself.
Hey Lavinia & Elizabeth! Great Blog… and yes there was a few “new” things I found out! 🙂
Have fun on your blog… Talk to you soon
Fascinating answers Lavinia. Thanks for sharing and thanks to EB for inviting you. I am loving the ebooks and can’t wait for the next one.
I have to confess that I had help with the titles was so focused on The Real Duchess of London concept and the actual stories that I my brain got stuck there.
As for it being four novellas instead of one book, the short answer is that’s what I was asked to write. I think it mostly has to do with timing. I was thrilled to be asked to help launch AvonImpulse, but could never have finished four novellas — or one longer book in time. I am still working on the fourth one now.
I am hoping that once they are all out that Avon will put them together in paperback format.
Thanks,
Lavinia
it’s like a little mini-series in book format. just like tv, you gotta either wait for the next episode to air a week or so or wait till it’s done and do the back-to-back marithon 😉
Hi, Lavinia! I saw your post on J&G’s bookclub so I decided to drop in. As I always say so many books and so little time!
Yes, gamemistress66, a miniseries is exactly what I was thinking about.
It is always wonderful to see aspiring writers continue to grow. Wonderful work and congratulations on all of your accomplishments. 🙂
