5 Things About Melissa McClone

Oct 28, 2014 | TV, Movies, & Good Reads, Writing, Elizabeth's Favorites, Friends, Holidays

I am so thrilled to have my dear friend, Melissa McClone on the blog today. Melissa and I had our kids like one after another, have traded mom advice through it all, and relied on each other as sounding boards when things got (and still do get) crazy. We walk a very similar path and have so MUCH in common that sometimes it’s almost scary . . .

Like our mutual need for Peanut Buster Parfaits while on deadline . . .

1) Did you have a nickname growing up?

Yes! I was Missy for the first eighteen years of my life. When I went off to college, I started going by Melissa and have been that ever since. Occasionally family and longtime friends still call me Missy.MistletoeWedding-MEDIUM

2) How do you pick the names of your Heroes/Heroines?

I have no method. Sometimes a name comes to me out of the blue or I’ll try to match a name to a personality type. One time I asked my 16 year-old daughter for suggestions which is why I now have a hero named Ashton/Ash. Want to guess what the name of the drummer in her favorite band is?

3) Do you celebrate when you finish a book and what you do?
Not sure I’d call it a celebration, but I sleep! For hours. And enjoy every minute!

4. If you could have only 3 electrical appliances in your house, what would they be and why?

1) A computer—I use it to write, keep in touch, listen to music. Pretty much the one inanimate thing I wouldn’t want to live without!

2) Refrigerator—ice cream! Need I say more?

daniels-gift-2003) Lamp—I like light. We’ve been without power enough times I know reading by candlelight gets old fast as does using flashlights so I’d want a lamp so I could see!

5. Name three books on your keeper shelf.

1) The Stand by Stephen King
2) Daniel’s Gift by Barbara Freethy
3) Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Thanks for having me on your blog, my friend! xoxox And one of those Peanut Buster Parfaits look really good. We could meet halfway at the DQ in Centralia 😉

    • Elizabeth

NO kidding! Might be heading your way for Thanksgiving so I we could take a break in Vancouver! LOL.

      • Melissa McClone

Just let me know! Would love to see you. Also want to head up to SU at some point with the eldest 🙂

    • Jackie Lewis

The Peanut Buster Parfaits is my son’s favorite DQ treat also.

  2. Tanya Phillips

Think your daughter likes 5 seconds of summer.

    I love pride and prejudice.

    • Melissa McClone

You are correct, Tanya! They are her fave band at the moment!

  3. Ranee Wheeler

No wonder I like you and your books, ice cream and a computer what more do you need.

    • Melissa McClone

Haha Ranee! But really, what more do you need 🙂

  4. Shari

What a great interview. Love DQ and Daniel’s Gift such a good book. Thanks for sharing.

    • Melissa McClone

      Thanks for stopping by Shari!

  5. Laurie Gommermann

Thanks for sharing a little bit about your self. I am an ice cream fanatic. I love DQ’s Buster Bars. I grew up with the DQ truck going down our street. My mom always bought a dozen dillies and they would give you a bakers dozen.

    • Melissa McClone

A dozen Dillies! My kiddos would be in heaven, Laurie! So glad to see all these DQ fans!

  6. Gigi

    Now we know…
I have Pride and Prejudice on my keeper shelf. I can’t read anything scary (nightmares). I just hopped over to goodreads and checked out Daniel’s Gift I will have to get that for my kindle. Read and loved Mistletoe Wedding 🙂

    • Melissa McClone

Oh, thanks Gigi! So glad you liked it. Highly recommend Daniel’s Gift! I have one of the original paperbooks on my shelf!

  7. Melissa Scalzo

Nice to know where the names come from and little things like that. Thanks for sharing.

    • Melissa McClone

Hi Melissa! Thanks for commenting. Elizabeth asks great questions for this. It was a fun post to write!

  8. denise

my DQ is less than 2 miles away!

Love P&P, too. Do you love the movie/BBC interpretations?

    • Elizabeth

Sadly so is mine! I wish I had more willpower. 🙂

    • Melissa McClone

Same here, Denise. That makes it convenient on deadline. Dangerous anytime else.

I enjoyed both the BBC and the movie and may be in the minority here, but the movie is the one I go back to time and time again. I own both, but there’s just something about it that I can watch many times.

  9. Bridget Taylor

    Great questions. Loved the interview.

    • Melissa McClone

Hi Bridget! Elizabeth asks the best question. This was a pleasure to fill out. So glad you enjoyed it.

  10. Melinda Garza

Great questions and answers. BTW, the peanut buster parfait is my favorite.

    • Melissa McClone

Thanks for stopping by Melinda! Looks like all the Peanut Buster Parfait lovers have gathered in one place!!!! I’ve been so good this deadline time, but may have to give in!

  11. Melissa McClone

Thanks for all the comments! I have revisions due so will be back to reply as soon as I have a few spare moments!

  12. Tammy Leonard

I love anything Stephen king and DQ!! Great interview!

    • Melissa McClone

Thanks Tammy! Another PBP fan! Yay! I read The Stand when I was a teenager and again as an adult. Still one of my faves. I remember reading The Shining and being scared to death, much more than the movie!

  13. Jean White

You have me craving a Peanut Buster Parfait. I have to go to the Ferry Terminal on Staten Island to have any DQ.

    • Melissa McClone

I’ve been craving one too! And I was on deadline, Jean! I didn’t know if there were DQs in New York. That’s where my hubby is from and it’s Carvel or Friendly’s for him when it’s ice cream time! I’ll be back there next year so good to know where I can get my DQ fix if needed. Thanks 🙂

  14. Dana Anderson

I love Peanut Buster Parfaits! I also love the books on your keeper shelf.

    • Melissa McClone

Thanks Dana!!!! I actually walked into my office and looked at my Keeper Shelf to write the three titles. It was fun looking at all the books there, but those three just stuck out to me so that’s why I listed them!
